Recently I had the opportunity to visit the exposition in Madrid of a great artist and painter who was completely unknown to me. I had never heard his name before. Thanks to a friend of mine I finally could discover the amazing and wonderful paintings of Alfons Mucha, who was born in 1860 in Moravia (nowadays a region of the Czech Republic) and died in 1939.
Alfons Mucha became well known as a painter of advertisements, posters and designs, especially since he started collaborating with the famous Parisian actress Sarah Bernhardt, making posters for her productions.
I was really impressed seeing the amazing and beautiful works of Alfons Mucha with all its decorative details so perfectly being displayed. I was bewildered by the magnificence of his imagination and the way he reflected it in his works, so carefully and with so much dedication. The portraits he has made of his family, himself and of all the other people he met in his life are also astonishing.
One of the first portraits you can see in the exposition is one of himself, where Alfons Mucha completely captures the attention of the visitor; it is so real that you get the feeling that he is communicating with you through the look of his eyes. It is really amazing.
I was glad to learn in the exposition that Alfons Mucha was a friend of Paul Gauguin, one of my favourite painters, and that they even worked together in some projects.
After this visit I really wondered how a such talented painter as Alfons Mucha never has become so world famous like painters as Picasso.
